DUI Detention At Home

Last updated 7 years ago

As budgets shrink sending someone to jail has become more and more expensive, so Arizona is looking at other ways to handle DUI's in Phoenix and the surrounding areas. More and more Valley cities are actually deciding to put DUI offenders in their homes on house detention or house arrest. Here is what one of the judges has to say about DUI cases:

"City Court Judge James Mapp said El Mirage pays $300,000 a year to put DUI offenders behind bars. It recovers only about $20,000 of those costs because people either can't or won't pay incarceration costs. Under the home-detention program, a convicted drunken driver will have to pay a private company for the monitoring bracelet and any associated costs, Mapp said. "
